Water systems of ancient times relied on gravity for the supply of water, using pipes or channels usually made of clay, lead, bamboo, wood, or stone. Hollowed wooden logs wrapped in steel banding were used for plumbing pipes, particularly water mains. Logs were used for water distribution in England close to 500 years ago. US cities began using hollowed logs in the late 1700s through the 1800s. Today, most plumbing supply pipe is made out of steel, copper, and plastic; most waste (also known as "soil")[21] out of steel, copper, plastic, and cast iron.[21]

We live in a recently completed townhouse that was built with double-wall construction. That construction method was touted by the builder as what would keep sound from penetrating between the units. But we can hear the next door neighbors' TV and stereo, and sometimes voices and even snoring, through the wall. While sometimes it's the volume, mostly it's the bass sounds coming through the wall. They say they don't hear us, but we keep our bass turned down. They crank up the bass, and they are not going to change that. They also are not going to do anything construction-wise to help from their side. What is the best way for us to try to block the low frequency/bass sounds from penetrating the existing wall into our side?
Sometimes a faucet leak can be stopped by replacing the rubber washer at the end of a faucet stem or cartridge.  This is a more common repair on older fixtures when things were built to last and designed to be able to be maintained.  Other times the whole stem or cartridge needs replacement or the bibb seat deeper back into the fixture needs replacement.  That leads to matching up the right components and often times making a trip to the hardware store or plumbing supply house necessary due to the many varieties, makes and models of faucets.  My advice is to make sure your Plumber has faucet repair kit on their truck before having them come out to assess the issue.
Outstanding, friendly, reasonably priced, and professional work! Atomic Plumbing provided excellent service from the timely response, to my call to updates prior to their arrival time, to the actual work conducted on site. They provided me with options and didn't try and strong arm us into service we didn't need. They stayed with us until we could verify the service was complete (and the toilet didn't back up again) and ensured we had peace of mind about the work that was done before they left. I asked for additional service to be completed on the upstairs bathroom shower and the technician, James M., provided an initial assessment for free and gave me options. Once I determined it was going to need his expertise, he quickly and efficiently got to work and fixed that problem too. They were military friendly and provided me a 10% discount which for a family of five on a single income, every little bit helps! I would STRONGLY recommend Atomic over the other guys any day of the week! Thank you Atomic! -Nick R.

The progress of a society may be judged by the way in which it disposes of its human waste material, and thus by the quality of its sewerage system (Mumford 1961, chap. 8). In the ancient world, the Greeks and Romans put great emphasis upon town planning. Roman cities were famed for their sewers, drains, aqueducts, paved streets, and roads. Domestic plumbing ranged from marble bathrooms with under-floor heating and indoor toilets in upmarket villas to basic latrine provision for the Roman army, as found, for example, alongside Hadrian’s Wall in northern Britain (Greed 2003). Following the decline of the Roman Empire, waste disposal returned to more primitive methods. Most ordinary people used an outdoor “privy,” while nobles often had an “indoor” toilet built out from the wall of their castle, hanging over the moat. In the Christian West during the Middle Ages, indoor plumbing, or for that matter personal hygiene and privacy, were not highly esteemed marks of civilization or progress, although washing and bathing, and bathhouses, were given higher priority in the Muslim East (Bonneville 1997).
This was Roberts fourth visit to her home, each time for different services and Zach‘s first. As always Tiffany in the office as well as the rest of the staff are more than communicative prior to the visit and keep you up-to-date on the travel time of the technician. The technicians are friendly, intelligent, accommodating, and beyond respectful and neat. I highly recommend Atomic Plumbing for any residential or commercial needs and would like to thank them for their personalized attention to our home.
"lead hung on a string to show the vertical line," early 14c., from Old French *plombe, plomee "sounding lead," and directly from Late Latin *plumba, originally plural of Latin plumbum "lead (the metal), lead ball; pipe; pencil," a word of unknown origin, related to Greek molybdos "lead" (dialectal bolimos) and perhaps from an extinct Mediterranean language, perhaps Iberian.

Kelowna is a small city in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. One of the most beautiful places to visit in the area is Okanagan Lake, surrounded by provincial parks, pine forest, vineyards, orchards and mountains. The downtown area of Kelowna has a nice waterfront Park with plenty of services and amenities. For wine lovers there are at least 20 local vineyards that offer wine tours and tastings.
Drain Rescue is definitely true to it's name. My drain was completely blocked and not at all functional when I called them. They asked if I needed someone to come out the same day (it was evening). I declined since it wasn't really an emergency, just a huge inconvenience. The plumber came out right on the time the next morning and had my drain fixed in about 30 minutes. The service was excellent and the price was reasonable. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a plumber.

Atomic Plumbing & Drain Cleaning provided Expert Plumber Jimmy Powell to diagnose and perform an emergency repair at my home. I had experienced flooding from poor workmanship by one of their competitors, who then refused to help me. When I contacted Atomic Plumbing with an emergency request, they stepped up immediately to assist me, and sent their plumber Jimmy P., who identified and corrected the poor workmanship that caused the flooding. Very knowledgeable in his trade, confident in the correction that he crafted, and he is a genuine good person. I would have been pleased with that much, but the reasonable price for the emergency work and the 1 year warranty that Jimmy presented on behalf of Atomic Plumbing brought it all home for me. This is a company that stands behind their good name and will send you the very best plumbing professionals when you are having a bad plumbing day. I am so glad that I contacted Atomic and met Jimmy. You will be too. Call Atomic Plumbing FIRST!

Journeyman plumber: Once the requirements of an apprenticeship are fulfilled, plumbers can apply for a journeyman license. Many workers in the plumbing industry are journeymen. Obtaining a journeyman's license requires a fee and the successful passing of an exam. Licenses vary by state, although not all areas require journeymen to be licensed. Instead, the amount of work they are able to perform is limited.

Once again it was Atomic Plumbing to the rescue. This company is absolutely the best plumbing company in the whole area. This time I had James M and Ryan S complete a very complicated, long re-piping/re-routing of my gas line to the hot water heater and furnace. The gas company had found a leak and had to “red tag”/cut off my gas until the leak was repaired. I called Atomic and as always I received the very best service. Tiffany answered the phone and was so personable, warm, and reassuring. She quickly scheduled the repair. James M and Ryan S arrived on time and got to work. James was lead tech and fully explained the job and then he and his apprentice got to work. Both James and Ryan worked diligently and hard all day to complete the work. To cut to the chase, the work was approved by the city inspector and the gas company turned my gas back on. I was so relieved that what I thought might be a nightmare was handled so professsionally and promptly. Oh yes, the gas company tech actually complimented the work done by James M and Ryan S. I am so grateful to both of them for their hard work, their obvious skill, and their friendly, professional manner. Way to go Atomic! You have my business for life!
Great experience, despite the plumbing issue! Ryan D was on time, professional, efficient and quickly identified our issue. He explained our options, including estimated costs and then proceeded to get everything back in working order for us. I was impressed that he wore shoe coverings inside the home, laid out a mat in the work area, and under the sink. There was literally no clean up needed on our part. We would call them again and recommend them to others! Job well done!

The difference between pipes and tubes is simply in the way it is sized. PVC pipe for plumbing applications and galvanized steel pipe for instance, are measured in IPS (iron pipe size). Copper tube, CPVC, PeX and other tubing is measured nominally, which is basically an average diameter. These sizing schemes allow for universal adaptation of transitional fittings. For instance, 1/2" PeX tubing is the same size as 1/2" copper tubing. 1/2" PVC on the other hand is not the same size as 1/2" tubing, and therefore requires either a threaded male or female adapter to connect them. When used in agricultural irrigation, the singular form "pipe" is often used as a plural.[19]
