For many centuries, lead was the favoured material for water pipes, because its malleability made it practical to work into the desired shape. (Such use was so common that the word "plumbing" derives from plumbum, the Latin word for lead.) This was a source of lead-related health problems in the years before the health hazards of ingesting lead were fully understood; among these were stillbirths and high rates of infant mortality. Lead water pipes were still widely used in the early 20th century, and remain in many households. In addition, lead-tin alloy solder was commonly used to join copper pipes, but modern practice uses tin-antimony alloy solder instead, in order to eliminate lead hazards.
I've used Atomic Plumbing for several years now. Most recently this week. I had a leaking main supply line under my driveway which was a laborious repair that required cutting my concrete driveway and digging down several feet to access the leak. My technician, Sean and his partner, Paul did an AWESOME job. They arrived on time, gave me a fair quote for the work, and began the repair process immediately. They were incredibly friendly and kept me abreast of the situation every step of the way.Like my previous experiences with Atomic, this one was professional and the final bill was slightly less than what they quoted me thanks to Atomic's military and veteran discount. If you need a plumber you will be well served to call Atomic.
The movement of liquids and gases through pipes is critical to modern life. In homes, water is needed for both drinking and sanitation. In factories, chemicals are moved to aid in product manufacturing. In power plants, steam is moved to drive turbines that generate electricity. Plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters install and repair these pipe systems.
PVC/CPVC – rigid plastic pipes similar to PVC drain pipes but with thicker walls to deal with municipal water pressure, introduced around 1970. PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, and it has become a common replacement for metal piping. PVC should be used only for cold water, or for venting. CPVC can be used for hot and cold potable water supply. Connections are made with primers and solvent cements as required by code.
Ryan, came out on time on Friday evening, determined the problem, gave me the pricing and discussed everything with me. He did an outstanding job, on Saturday when he returned and installed the water heater. He cleaned up after himself and left the job site even cleaner than when he started. Would definitely request him again and will recommend Atomic Plumbing to my friends.

"If you EVER need an affordable plumber make sure you reach out to North Texas Plumbing Services 817-230-7586. Justin went above and beyond to work with us. We had a broken pipe under our concrete slab that needed to be replaced. Contacted North Texas Plumbing Services, they came out to give us a quote that day. We called them to accept their bid that same night, and the very next day they had their digging crew to begin the tunneling process. Everyone did a great job of keeping us updated throughout the entire process! After the pipe was replaced the diggers informed us we would have extra dirt left over and asked what would we like to do with it? We told them we would like it placed in the back yard, and unexpectedly, they also spread it out neatly for us."
Plumbers develop blueprints to plan where pipes and fixtures should be plotted in a structure. They also install and connect the piping and fixtures, either working individually or with a team of apprentices and pipefitters. In addition to facilitating water supply from pipes and large fixtures, such as bathtubs, showers, sinks and toilets, plumbers ensure that water reaches appliances like dishwashers and water heaters. The best in the occupation are strong problem-solvers who have mastered customer service and can meet the physical and mechanical demands of the job.

So thankful I made the call. The front office associate was very pleasant and shared the practice of what to expect on my service day. Technician Randy arrived within my service window, immediately introduced himself and presented me with his business card. I was also introduced to his assistant Tim who was also very polite. They also had shoe covers they placed on before entering my rooms (how thoughtful). The service was reviewed and cost to complete the job, authorization given and Randy started the task. I am pleased with the job, great TEAM. Thank you!
In the United Kingdom the professional body is the Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (educational charity status) and it is true that the trade still remains virtually ungoverned; there are no systems in place to monitor or control the activities of unqualified plumbers or those home owners who choose to undertake installation and maintenance works themselves, despite the health and safety issues which arise from such works when they are undertaken incorrectly; see Health Aspects of Plumbing (HAP) published jointly by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the World Plumbing Council (WPC). WPC has subsequently appointed a representative to the World Health Organization to take forward various projects related to Health Aspects of Plumbing.
Plumbing reached its early apex in ancient Rome, which saw the introduction of expansive systems of aqueducts, tile wastewater removal, and widespread use of lead pipes. With the Fall of Rome both water supply and sanitation stagnated—or regressed—for well over 1,000 years. Improvement was very slow, with little effective progress made until the growth of modern densely populated cities in the 1800s. During this period, public health authorities began pressing for better waste disposal systems to be installed, to prevent or control epidemics of disease. Earlier, the waste disposal system had merely consisted of collecting waste and dumping it on the ground or into a river. Eventually the development of separate, underground water and sewage systems eliminated open sewage ditches and cesspools.

Water systems of ancient times relied on gravity for the supply of water, using pipes or channels usually made of clay, lead, bamboo, wood, or stone. Hollowed wooden logs wrapped in steel banding were used for plumbing pipes, particularly water mains. Logs were used for water distribution in England close to 500 years ago. US cities began using hollowed logs in the late 1700s through the 1800s. Today, most plumbing supply pipe is made out of steel, copper, and plastic; most waste (also known as "soil") out of steel, copper, plastic, and cast iron.
Justin D and Eric worked on four leaky spots in one afternoon replacing toilet parts, bathroom sink fixtures, shower fixtures and an ancient outdoor spigot that required going into the crawl space. All were done efficiently and with detailed explanations. Additionally, each work area was left completely cleaned up. I appreciate that they also alerted me to a duct work problem under the house which I may not have discovered for some time. My parents, also customers, and I are happy to give a big thumbs up to Atomic Plumbing. Thank you Justin D and Eric! Good team!

James and Aron came to my condo to unclog the kitchen sink, which took a bit of doing (due to my inappropriate use of the disposal - egg shells - a big no). The line had to be snaked twice. Not a pretty task. Both James and Aron were professional in their manner, carefully explaining everything they needed to do, what the cost would be, and advice for future use. An additional job was added as I needed to replace the kitchen faucet. They made arrangements to get the proper faucet replacement and that job was done all in the same day (saving me a return trip fee). These pros were polite, competent, and knew how to explain every aspect of the job in language a novice could understand. I have another unrelated job that I will be requesting Atomic and the James/Aron team to handle. I highly recommend this company! They shoot straight and get the job done in a timely, cost-efficient manner. Great customer service all around! Thank you.
Don’t fix it if it’s not broken, right? While the saying makes sense, when it comes to plumbing, it’s best to simply keep an eye on things. This means not overlooking toilets, sink drains, pipes and valves. And, it’s a good idea to schedule an annual maintenance appointment with your plumber, so you don’t have to pay a ton of money later! Got a leak? Here’s how to fix a water-shutoff valve that’s leaking.
“Don’t assume that every Mr. Fix-it advertising his services in the local Pennysaver or on Craigslist is a licensed plumber,” says one New York plumber. There is no national standard for issuing licenses. Some plumbers are licensed by the state, others by the counties they work in. Check with your local city hall or chamber of commerce. They should be able to direct you to the appropriate source for a list of licensed plumbers in your area.

Hello I had a plumber do an estimate for me to replace our copper pipes with plastic as we have no existing walls up in our basement yet...pretty basic job... so we figured we could upgrade as we do live in Northern Ontario and it does tend to get quite cold here in the winters. We dont have any existing problems with our plumbing right now just figured it would be good time to do the job and perhaps change the pipes to 3 quarter inch for faster flow. Well I never thought in all my life I would get an estimate back that would state $350.00 an hour in labor...yes that is correct $350.00 an hour...estimated 10 hours for the job to be completed. So he quoted me $3500.00 for labor alone.. not supplies? Well needless to say I will be happy with my half inch copper pipes and will happily wait for my bathtub to fill up at a slower pace. Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on this $350.00 an hour quote? Thank you and enjoy your day.
